Meet Dr Mari

I am the wife of a pilot-turned-preacher and the happy mom of three terrific children. My life was transformed years ago through a heartfelt prayer on my knees. Since then, my work as a family physician turned into a ministry as I learned to care for people from the heart. I strive to care for the soul and minister to the spirit while treating the body.

I am passionate about physician wellness, burnout prevention, and helping healthcare professionals thrive in a broken system in constant flux. As a physician coach, I enjoy helping my colleagues develop their gifts and rediscover ways to greater contentment, meaning, and purpose in medicine and in life. My goal is to inspire healthcare professionals to see their work as vocation and reignite a sense of hope, vitality, and joy in serving others from full hearts. My goal is to raise the bar for myself and others to achieve higher levels of personal and professional Excellence, Empowerment, and Equipping.

As a physician, I served as chief resident and as president of the Florida Association of Family Medicine Residents. I received the AMA Achievement Award, the AAFP Foundation Teacher Development Award, the Psychiatry Clinical Excellence & Research Award, and the Distinguished Graduate Award from the U.S. Air Force, among others. Yet, I’ve learned that true joy does not come from awards or recognition but through genuine service and caring from the heart. As a colleague said to me years ago, “It is not unprofessional to be human with people.” Indeed, as Rabbi and theologian Abraham Heschel wrote, “In order to heal a person, you must first be a person.”

As we care for people, we must first offer them our humanity. Vulnerability, compassion, and genuine concern connect us and heal; they are powerful medicine for the heart, body, and soul.

My greatest joy comes from knowing God and making Him known, sharing life with my loving husband and children, and from continually pursuing opportunities to share the gift of hope.

Like Mother Teresa urged, I now live to do "small things with great love."

I have worked in various practice settings, including inpatient and outpatient medicine, urgent care, corporate and military medicine, and faith-based practices. I have a passion for medical missions and caring for the underserved, and was blessed to serve on the Board of Directors of Grace Medical Home. I had the privilege of helping start this state-of-the-art nonprofit clinic for the uninsured. Its mission to "see to it that no one misses the grace of God" (Hebrews 12:15) is very close to my heart. I serve on the Board of Directors of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians and am a member of the Florida Medical Association Leadership Academy.

In recent years, I have returned to my love of writing as a way to spread hope and facilitate healing. In my writing and speaking ministry, I accept projects where I can Stir hope, Ignite faith, and Inspire positive action in others. I enjoy helping people learn to feed their soul, renew their mind, and strengthen their spirit with God's Word and to apply its timeless principles in daily living. Whether home with my family, working on a writing project, at a speaking engagement, or caring for people's medical needs, I seek to glorify God in all I do and to help others grow in their relationship with God.

Joyfully,
Dr. Mari (Amaryllis Sánchez Wohlever, MD)
